San Francisco:

One person was killed and another injured in a shootout inside a Muni train in the US San Francisco on Wednesday morning, according to police.

San Francisco police responded to a shooting report at Muni Forest Hill Station and found that the train was headed towards Castro Station.

Officers discovered two victims at Castro station. A police spokesman said one was pronounced dead on the spot and the other was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The San Francisco Police Department said the shooter fled the train at Castro station and was still on the run.

According to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle, the shooting didn’t happen suddenly, the suspected shooter and one of the victims were in contention before the shooting.

“This is yet another reminder that as long as our country is full of guns, shootings can happen anywhere, anytime,” State Sen. Scott Wiener said in a statement. “California has some of the strongest gun safety laws in the nation, and we’re continuing to strengthen them. But we need strong action from Congress to really improve the safety of our community.”
