10 killed in bus-truck collision in Nashik

At least ten people were killed and several others injured when a speeding bus rammed into a truck in Maharashtra’s Nashik district on Friday, January 13, 2023, police officials said.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed grief over the loss of lives and ordered an inquiry into the accident.

Officials said the private luxury bus started from Ambernath in Thane district and was on its way to the temple town of Shirdi in Ahmednagar district.

The incident took place around 6.30 am near Pathare Shivar in Nashik’s Sinnar tehsil, about 180 km from Mumbai, officials said.

According to preliminary reports, the dead included seven women, two small boys and a man.

The injured were taken to Sinnar Rural Hospital and Yashwant Hospital.

Officials said the death toll could rise as the condition of some of the injured was said to be critical.

Chief Minister Shinde expressed grief over the incident and announced financial assistance of Rs five lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased. A statement from his office said the state government would bear the cost of treatment of the injured persons.
