Unknown people stole gold jewelery worth Rs 4 lakh from the house by tying the woman to a stone pillar.

M. Parvati, 55, from Avadayyammalpuram here, came out of her house on Tuesday night to answer Prakriti’s call, police said. Suddenly, two persons, dressed like bears, usually worn by devotees during the Dussehra season here, tied him against a pillar.

They entered Ms. Parvati’s house with a cloth in her mouth and took 10 sovereigns of gold ornaments from a bureau.

When her daughter-in-law heard Ms. Parvati’s murmur, she came out of the house and rescued her mother-in-law. Nalattinpudur police have registered a case.
