14 killed, 35 injured in landslides caused by heavy rains in Colombia

At least 14 people were killed and 35 others injured Tuesday morning in a landslide triggered by heavy rain in a city in western Colombia.

Heavy rain caused a landslide in a residential area in a city in western Colombia on Tuesday morning, killing at least 14 people and injuring 35 others.

One person is reported missing after the fatal slide in Risaralda, Pereira municipality, officials said.

Pereira Mayor Carlos Maya, who confirmed the death toll, warned that the risk of landslides continued in the area and urged people to leave to avoid further casualties.

Many houses are made of wood in the affected areas and more than 60 houses have been evacuated as teams have done damage and risk assessment.

Colombian President Ivan Duque has offered condolences to the families of the deceased.
