15 states to achieve Logistics Performance Index in 2022, says report

According to a report released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on October 13, 2022, Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Gujarat are among the 15 states and union territories that have been classified as recipients in the Logistics Index Chart 2022.

Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Puducherry, Sikkim and Tripura are the other states classified as fast movers in the ranking.

The 15 states and union territories included in the category of candidates include Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Mizoram, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Ladakh, Nagaland, Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh.

Other states and union territories include Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

As per the fourth LEEDS (Ease of Logistics in Different States) Report 2022, unveiled by the Minister of Commerce and Industry, the report ranks the states on the basis of their logistics ecosystem, highlighting the major logistics related challenges faced by the stakeholders. and contains suggestive recommendations. The index aims to focus on improving logistics performance in the states which is essential for improving the country’s trade and reducing transaction costs.

The first logistic report was released in 2018. Last year no ranking was released due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Leeds survey assesses the attitudes of various users and stakeholders across the value chain including shippers, terminal infrastructure service providers, logistics service providers, transporters and government agencies to understand the enablers and constraints for the logistics ecosystem in the country.

The annual survey processes the data received from stakeholders (perception data) and states/UTs (objective data) and ranks the logistics ecosystem of each state/UT using a statistical model.

Speaking at the event, Shri Goyal said that PM Gatishakti National Master Plan initiative is helping in proper planning and integration of infrastructure projects.

He said that it has the potential to save around Rs 10 lakh crore per year by improving logistics efficiency.

“It will also help bring down the cost in single digits in the coming years,” he said, adding that the initiative is also being used by state governments to plan social sector projects.

The Minister expressed confidence that Pradhan Mantri Gatishakti would help in bringing about inclusive and equitable development to the remote areas, especially the people of the Northeast, by helping them to undertake integrated infrastructure planning and close the growth gap.

PM Gatishakti initiative aims to create integrated and holistic planning across the concerned Ministries/Departments for improving multimodal connectivity and logistics efficiency.
