15,906 fresh COVID-19 cases in India, 2.5% less than yesterday

India Covid Update: National COVID-19 recovery rate recorded at 98.17%.

New Delhi:
India recorded an increase of 15,906 new COVID-19 cases in a day, taking the country’s total to 3,41,75,467, as per the data updated today by the Union Health Ministry.

Here are the top updates on coronavirus in India:

  1. The daily test positivity rate – the number of positive cases identified per 100 – is xx per cent while the weekly positivity rate is less than 2 per cent at 1.23 per cent for the last 30 days.

  2. Active cases comprise less than 1 per cent of total infections, which currently stands at 0.51%, the lowest since March 2020.

  3. The national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.17 per cent, the highest since March 2020, the bulletin showed. With 16,479 recoveries in the last 24 hours, the total number of cured people in the country has gone up to 3,35,48,605.

  4. More than 102 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country so far, including over 70 lakh doses administered yesterday. On Thursday this week, India administered its billionth vaccine. Addressing the nation a day later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said it was “not just a number” but a symbol of the country’s potential and a “New India”.

  5. West Bengal continues to register an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases including 974 new infections yesterday, 128 more than the previous day. The state has witnessed a spike since the end of Durga Puja festival.

  6. In the Northeast, Assam recorded over 300 cases (324) for the fifth consecutive day, while the positivity rate remained at 0.81 per cent since Friday.

  7. Kerala reported 8,909 new COVID-19 cases and 65 deaths in the last 24 hours, with 8,780 patients having recovered from the disease. The number of active cases in the state is 80,555.

  8. Maharashtra recorded 1,701 fresh Covid positive cases and 33 related deaths yesterday, taking the tally to 66,01,551 and the death toll to 1,39,998, taking the state’s tally to 24,022 active cases.

  9. Tamil Nadu further extended the Covid restrictions in the state till November 15, though some restrictions were relaxed. The ban on celebrating festivals and organizing political events will continue, although the 11 pm closure deadline for shops and restaurants will be removed.

  10. The Center yesterday asked states and Union Territories to ensure that the upcoming festivals are celebrated in a safe and cautious manner with “extreme precautions” amid the pandemic, directing that those identified as “containment zones” No mass gathering should be allowed in areas with more than 5 per cent COVID-19 test confirmation rate.”
