2.6 kg opium seized from ice cream vendor in Hyderabad

LB Nagar Police and Special Operations team on Wednesday arrested an ice cream trader and recovered 2.6 kg of opium from him.

Police said Jagat Chandra Jhat had procured the banned material from Rajasthan through Suresh, a truck driver who transports marble here.

According to the police, the accused started selling opium as he had suffered a loss during the COVID-19 lockdown. It was said that he was buying the contraband at Rs 2 lakh per kg and reselling it at almost five times the price.

He was booked for violation under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The search is on for the accused truck driver.
