2.71 lakh Covid cases registered in India, 314 deaths in 24 hours; Omicron tally 7,743 . Feather

India recorded 2,71,202 new Covid infections in a day – its highest daily count in eight months. According to the latest data on coronavirus by the Union Health Ministry, the total Covid caseload rose to 37,122,164 on Sunday, including 7,743 omicron type cases. With 1,702 cases of the new type of coronavirus in the past day, India saw a 28.17% increase in its Omron tally.

The number of daily deaths due to infection was 314. With this, the death toll from the viral disease has increased to 4,86,066. The case fatality rate was 1.31%.

Active cases have increased to 15,50,377, and this is 4.18% of the total infections. The Health Ministry said that the national COVID-19 recovery rate has come down to 94.51%.

The active caseload in the country has increased by 1,32,557 in a single day. So far, the total number of people who have been cured of corona virus infection has increased to 3,50,85,721.

National capital Delhi continued to decline in new Covid-19 cases on Saturday. The city reported 20,718 fresh infections yesterday. 30 people have lost their lives due to coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 25,335.

Maharashtra recorded 42,462 new coronavirus infections on Saturday, 749 less than on Friday. The state reported 23 deaths due to Covid infection. Also, 125 new omicron cases were reported in the state yesterday.

The daily Covid cases also declined in West Bengal yesterday. The state reported 19,064 cases and 39 deaths in a day.

However, Karnataka saw a big jump in its daily Covid tally on Saturday. Karnataka reported 32,793 new cases of Covid-19, and seven deaths, taking the tally to 31,86,040 and the death toll to 38,418.

Currently, India is witnessing a huge increase in its daily case count which coincides with the high rate of testing. According to the data of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 16,65,404 Kovid tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. Since the start of the pandemic, India has conducted 70,24,48,838 COVID tests as per ICMR data.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, India completed one year of the world’s largest vaccination campaign. Last year, on January 16, India launched the COVID-19 vaccination campaign, starting with health care workers. Gradually, Covid shots were given to frontline workers, senior citizens and all adults above 18 years. From January 3, 2022, India started administering the Kovid vaccine to children in the age group of 15 to 18 years. Apart from this, the country has also started giving ‘precautionary supplements’ to senior citizens and frontline workers.

According to the Ministry of Health, 65.51 crore people in the country have been fully vaccinated so far. While single shot has got 90.68 crores.
