2022 Mahindra Scorpio-N vs Tata Safari: Comparison of the most popular Indian SUVs – Times of India

SUV enthusiasts across the country await the launch of the all-new Mahindra Scorpio ‘N’ on June 27. Once out, Tata Motor’s flagship Safari will be one of the main contenders against the Scorpio N. Although the XUV700 is one. The direct rival of the Safari, the Scorpio N will also have a three-row of seats and similar dimensions, making it a contender for many buyers. Based on what we know about the Scorpio N so far and what the existing Tata Safari offers to buyers, here is a comparison between the two full-size SUVs.

Mahindra Scorpio N vs Tata Safari

performance:
The Tata Safari currently comes with the company’s Kryotec 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel BS6 engine that produces 170 PS of power and 35 Nm of torque. The 4-cylinder diesel comes mated to a manual or automatic transmission of 16.4 kmpl and 14.08 kmpl respectively.
On the other hand, the new Mahindra Scorpio N will most likely be powered by Mahindra’s 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engines that are currently doing duty in the Thar and XUV700. However, it is likely that the engine will be in a different condition from the other two SUVs. The Scorpio N is also expected to come with both manual and automatic transmissions. The latest Mahindra SUV is also expected to get a 4×4 all-wheel-drive system that the Safari misses out on.

Looks like:
While both the Scorpio N and Safari will have bigger SUV allure, the Safari will always be an extension of Tata Motor’s Harrier model that shares styling and platform with its full-size counterpart. However, based on the official images, the Scorpio N sports an all-new design with flared shoulder arches, brand new front and rear designs and larger dimensions. The speculation that the current-gen Scorpio will continue its life as the ‘Scorpio Classic’ further establishes the fact that the new model is based on an entirely new platform.
