The 2022 iQube is currently offered for sale in two variants, Standard and iQube S, with the S variant getting a bigger instrument console with more features and more color options. The standard version lacks some features but still offers more range than before, but still offers more range with a bigger battery pack.

The TVS iQube offers a traditional design, but it still offers one of the best-rounded electric scooters available on sale.

More than two years ago, we rode the TVS iQube for the first time TVS Motor CompanyHosur manufacturing facility test track in a controlled environment. Now with more range, we got our hands on the base variant of the new iQube and ride it in everyday conditions, in the city, and on some rough roads, to see if it’s a viable option to go electric. The idea is to have a traditional petrol powered scooter as a replacement.

design features

TVS iQube has always been a well built and well designed scooter. The design is traditional, not as aggressive as the current crop of other electric scooters, but that’s not a bad thing. It’s well proportioned, looks neat and the overall design is stylish without being over-the-top. Take a close look, what impresses is the build quality along with the great fit and finish. The front apron and wrap around lights along the tail section give a hint of modernity, for an otherwise “safe” design.

TVS iQube is a well designed and well built electric scooter. The design may not be very ‘futuristic’ or radical, but it is a safe and traditional design, which will appeal to a wider audience.

The lights are full LED, and include an LED position lamp, twin LED headlights, LED turn indicators, as well as an LED taillamp that wraps neatly around the tail section bodywork. The 5-inch instrument console on the standard variant remains the same, and offers a long list of features including smartphone connectivity via TVS Motor Company’s SmartXonect system. Through the dedicated mobile app, you can access a long list of useful features including turn-by-turn navigation, geo-fencing, ride analytics, incoming call alerts, side stand indication, battery level and low battery indication, distance to empty, Huh. The 2022 TVS iQube Standard Edition still gets the existing 5-inch instrument console. The higher variants, S and ST get a bigger screen with more features and custom themes and color options.

The standard iQube is now available in three colours, Pearl White, Shining Red and Titanium Grey. Unfortunately, we still get Pearl White on our test bike. For those who want youthful trendyness in their iCube, the S variant offers a choice of four bright colours, which include Mint Blue, Lucid Yellow and Copper Bronze Glossy.

This higher variant, iQube S and iQube ST get more color options.

The upcoming top-spec ST variant will offer a choice of four more colours, including two with matte finishes. Whatever the choice of colour, the iQube definitely comes out as one of the best electric scooters on sale when it comes to quality as well as fit and finish. The design may not be as exciting to many younger customers, but it is something that will appeal to a wider audience of different demographics.

battery and range

The iCube now comes with a 3.04 kWh, 52V, IP67-rated lithium-ion battery with increased range. The claimed range is 100 km in economy mode, while the range drops to 75 km in power mode. For everyday use, the iCube with a 100km range seems adequate for small-city runouts, but fast charging and the lack of a dedicated public charging network is a letdown.

The higher variant has more features, and the top-spec iQube ST, which is yet to be launched, offers a maximum range of 140km on a single charge. The iQube ST also gets the option of a 950 W charger, which can be used to charge the scooter in just 4 hours, while the 1500 W charger can charge the ST from 0 to 80 percent in just 2.5 hours.

The battery is IP67 rated, and TVS says the iQube has been tested in various terrains to make it perform smoothly. The iCube also comes with a unique architecture that can isolate low and high voltage systems to reduce the potential for short-circuits, something that will caution customers from going electric.

The TVS iCube has a wide footboard and a comfortable seat. The ride quality is well-ordered, and the handling is quite fast and accurate.

The claimed top speed is 78 kmph, but during our test ride, the instrument console once showed us a top speed of 83 kmph. The average speed of 79 kmph in power mode is easily achieved. If you’re the kind of person who wants to use it on sometimes empty roads for inter-city commutes, you’ll probably miss some of the more top-end punch. But overall, for everyday rides in the city, the iCube really has enough and more performance for one’s needs.

The TVS iQube has a wide footboard and a wide and comfortable seat. Very good ride quality and sharp handling complement the build quality.

ride and handling

But the specialty of the iCube is the way it is handled and its ride quality. It has a wide footboard, a wide and comfortable seat, the suspension is quite well fitted, so you can ride on any type of surfaces in your everyday riding. The iCube rides on 12-inch wheels, and comes with telescopic front forks, 220 mm front disc brake and twin rear shocks. The ride quality is superb, and if it’s the comfort you’re looking for, the iCube doesn’t disappoint.

TVS Motor Company’s expertise in motorsports and excellent chassis design is evident in the handling of the TVS iCube. The tires provide great grip, even when thrown at a corner speed and under hard braking.

Even on rough roads, the ride quality doesn’t fail to impress; There is no rattle from the body panels, and neither is there a look of the scooter losing its restraint. And when you show the iCube in a corner, TVS Motor Company’s expertise and experience in very good chassis design is certainly visible. The iQube stays engaged and always in control, and the tires provide great grip even when tilted

Variants and Price

In Delhi, the standard variant costs less than ₹ 1 lakh, but you have to buy the charger separately. For around 10,000 more, you get more color options, a bigger 7-inch instrument console with more features on the iQube S variant. What will be the variant to watch for the upcoming TVS iQube ST, which has a claimed range of 140 km.

type on-road price charger cost total cost
TVS iCube Standard ₹ 99,130 ₹ 9,450 ₹ 1,08,580
TVS iQube S ₹ 1,09,256 ₹ 9,450 ₹ 1,18,706

In the transition to electric mobility, TVS iQube offers a well-rounded product with ample performance, good features, very good build quality and great maneuverability.

Decision

TVS iCube certainly makes a strong impression. During our test ride, the range worked as claimed, with the combined use of both Echo and Power still achieving enough range for everyday use. Without any fast-charging network, we rode the iQube in a day for over 60 km in the city.

With a 100km range, the TVS iCube offers more practicality, but still lacks fast charging and a dedicated public charging network.

At the end of the day, the distance to empty still appears to be 32km left, and that’s with the combined use of both Eco and Power modes. As far as electric mobility is concerned, in the current plan, the iQube is definitely one of the best electric scooters available on sale at the moment, probably one of the top 5 electric scooters you can pick.
