The Hyundai Ioniq 5 took the top honors at the World Car Design of the Year, surpassing its sister model the Kia EV6. Hyundai’s retro-styled crossover faced stiff competition for the ultimate prize from its Kia sibling and the faster Audi e-tron GT. The Ioniq 5 is Hyundai’s first dedicated battery electric vehicle under its new Ioniq family, sitting on the company’s new e-GMP platform.

Revealed in early 2021, the Ioniq 5 follows a retro design theme inspired by the Hyundai Pony – a car that was conceived by renowned automobile designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. The retro design elements start with the body shape which appears to be a modern interpretation of the boxy pony with the headlamp and tail-lamp LED design providing a throwback to the square design elements of the original.

Hidden behind the boxy retro-modern design is the car with a 3000 mm wheelbase and though it may not look like it, it is bigger than the Creta and even the Tucson. The cabin is spacious and follows a minimalist design with two 12.3-inch screens that provide the drivers with all the necessary information and infotainment requirements. performance is also something to write home
