Fighting between rival Iraqi forces resumed Tuesday in Baghdad, where 23 supporters of Shia leader Muqtada Sadr were shot dead since Monday, according to the latest toll.

At least 380 people have also been injured, the medical source said.

Clashes between supporters of Sadr and the army and those of Hashed al-Shaabi, former paramilitary forces integrated into Iraqi forces, calmed overnight, but resumed Tuesday morning.

AFP correspondents said automatic weapons and rocket fire were heard in Baghdad from the high-security green zone, which houses government buildings and diplomatic missions.
