Pune: The National Assessment Survey (NAS) to test the learning outcomes of children will be conducted by the Union Ministry of School Education in over 7,000 schools and 23,000 students across the state on Friday.

The two-hour individual test will test students for all subjects from class III to X depending on the class. The exam for lower classes will be conducted for 90 minutes and for higher classes the exam will be conducted in MCQs for 120 minutes. Format. For this survey, the Diwali holiday in all government schools in the state has been reduced by one week.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has developed an assessment framework to assess the competencies acquired by the students in comparison to the learning outcomes. The survey goes beyond the scorecard and includes contextual variables as well as background variables to correlate student performance across various learning outcomes. It will be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) as the assessment administrator for class III, V, VIII and X students of state government schools, aided schools, private unaided schools and central government schools .

MD Singh, director, Maharashtra State Council of Education Research and Training said, “The survey will be conducted in a monitored environment in the sampled schools. The NAS findings will help diagnose students’ learning gaps and determine education policies, teaching practices and interventions needed in learning. Through its Diagnostic Report Card, the findings of the NAS help in capacity building for teachers and officials involved in the delivery of education.

In Maharashtra, schools and students have been selected by the Union ministry to appear for NAS on the basis of random sampling method. Field investigators are required to report to the school by 7.30 am on Friday while supervisors have to report at 8.30 am.

Singh said that all the schools have been instructed to follow the appropriate protocols of Kovid including use of hand sanitisers, masks, social distancing during the examination.

Selected schools have to collect 30 students per standard survey. For example, the school selected to conduct a survey of classes 5 and 10 will have to call all the students. Out of them, 30 each from the two sections will be selected at random along with the chit.

The survey, in the form of written test in language, maths and science, is for 39 lakh students from 1.25 lakh schools in the country.
