24 deaths due to rain in Karnataka

The state government has estimated widespread damage in the south-interior Karnataka region in November due to unseasonal rains in which 24 people have died and crops have been destroyed on 5 lakh hectares.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who held an emergency meeting on Sunday night, has ordered a joint survey to properly assess the damage.

₹689 crore available with the Deputy Commissioners will be used for relief work and ₹1 lakh will be released as the first installment for those who have lost their homes. The Finance Department has been directed to release Rs 500 crore to the PWD and RDPR departments for the repair of roads.

Damage to roads, bridges, schools

As per preliminary estimates, over 2,200 km of road network, 165 bridges, 1,225 school buildings, 39 public health centers have been damaged due to rain across the state. 658 houses have been completely damaged and 8,495 houses partially damaged.

Mr Bommai has directed to release Rs 25 lakh to each area in BBMP limits for filling of potholes and repair of irrigation tanks will be done on war footing.

Government sources said that Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Tumakuru, Ramanagaram, Hassan and Chikballapur districts have suffered extensive damage.

Chief Minister visited the rain affected areas

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday visited the rain-affected areas of Chikballapur and Sidlaghatta taluks and took stock of the damage caused by the rains.

He announced ₹5 lakh compensation for those whose houses have completely collapsed and ₹50,000 for those whose houses have partially collapsed.

He also inspected the flooded areas due to the spate of Kandavar lake in Chikballapur town and directed the officials to prepare a detailed project report for construction of a storm water drain between Kandavara and Gopalkrishna Amani lakes to prevent future floods. Gave.
