Madurai J. Jerlin Anika has won a gold medal in the women’s singles badminton event at the 24th Summer Deaflympics being held in Caxias do Sul, Brazil. He also won gold medal in mixed doubles badminton event and team badminton event.

Gerlin Anika of Austria. Nudolt won the gold medal in the singles event. In the mixed doubles event, Jarlin Anika and Abhinav Sharma defeated Boon and Teo of Malaysia to win the medal. She was a part of the Indian badminton team which won the gold medal by defeating the Japanese team 3-1.

The badminton player has won many medals for the country in national and international level events. She is participating in her second daflympics. Prior to this, she participated in the 2017 Deaflympics held in Samsun, Turkey. She was the youngest player in the event.

Jarlyn Anika started playing badminton at the age of eight. Recalling his first day on the court, his coach T. Saravanan said it was Jerlin Anika’s father J. It was Jeya Ratchagan, who had brought her to a coaching camp in Madurai as she was interested in badminton.

Since then Jerlyn Anika has not looked back. His performance improved in every match. She said that despite being the youngest player at the 2017 Deflympics, she managed to reach the quarter-finals and was given a certificate. Saravanan said he trained harder and won gold medals at the 24th Summer Deaflympics.
