The accused has been identified as Naveen Shetty, who works as a peon in Kundapur court premises and has been taken into custody. Police said Shetty entered the District Institute of Education and Training, next to the district jail, between 12.45 and 1 a.m., saying he was an old student and wanted to gift a lecturer .
The staff told Shetty that the lecturer he referred to was not on campus. According to the police, Shetty told them that they would “always hide information” from him.

Suddenly, a furiously furious Shetty pulled out a knife from his bag and went on an assault spree inside the DIET premises. During interrogation, Shetty reportedly told the police that the teacher and a student had done black magic on him. He returned to the campus on Monday to request the teacher to remove the effect of black magic. He got angry when he was told that the teacher was not in the campus, which led to the attack.
Mangaluru city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar visited the spot and met the injured staff members at the hospital. “Hearing the cries of the women employees, the jail staff in the next building rushed to rescue them.
