3 killed in separate shootings in US, 10 a day after hate crime killed

Two separate shootings were reported in the US last night.

At least three people were reported dead in two separate shootings in the US last night, a day after 10 people were shot and killed at a grocery store in New York state in an alleged hate crime.

During a banquet after the morning service, a gunman opened fire at a church near Los Angeles, killing one, officials said. Four others were in critical condition, he told a press conference.

The gunman, believed to be an Asian adult male in his 60s, was later taken into custody by church-goers and his legs were tied with an extension cord, according to AFP news agency. At least two weapons were seized from him.

Local reports, citing officials, said the victims were mostly of Asian and Taiwanese descent.

Meanwhile, in Texas, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said several people were shot at a flea market and two of them died on the spot.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said, “The shootout may have been caused by a dispute between the two sides, which turned violent. For now, we know of two people who died on the spot, and At least 3 others have been taken to hospitals,” Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.

He said that it appears that all the injured were likely to be involved in the brawl and as far as we know, no innocent person has been injured. At least two pistols were recovered and several shots were fired, he said.

In Saturday’s incident, an 18-year-old shot and killed 10 people at a grocery store in New York state while he live-streamed the entire episode.

Officials have called the attack “racially motivated”. The gunman was later arrested.
