4 killed, 1 critical after oil tanker explodes in Odisha’s Nayagarh

Four people were killed and one was seriously injured when an oil tanker exploded following an accident in Odisha’s Nayagarh district late Saturday night.

The oil tanker fell into a small river after hitting the barricades of Barapandesara Bridge near Nayagarh district headquarter town at around 1.30 am on Friday. The driver and assistant of an approaching vehicle immediately rushed to rescue the driver and assistant of the oil tanker. During this the tanker exploded.

Four people were burnt to death. Another local person suffered serious burns. He was first admitted to Nayagarh Hospital and later referred to SCB Medical College, Cuttack. His condition is stated to be critical.

The deceased have been identified as Pankaj Nayak, Bibhu Khatua, Sameer Nayak and Chandan Khatua. They were local villagers. The fire was triggered by the explosion of an oil tanker that engulfed the surrounding areas. Plants were burnt by the fire.
