444.69 acres of Porambok land declared as forest reserve in Coimbatore

A total of 444.69 acres of Porambok land in Thenkarai village of Perur taluk of Coimbatore district has been declared as forest reserve.

District Collector GS Sameeran issued an order in this regard on 29 September 2021 under the provisions of section 26 of the Tamil Nadu Forest Act, 1882.

According to him, this will help in the spread and development of fauna, flora and fauna in the region and give them better protection.

He said more than 1,000 hectares of land has been added to the forest in the district in the last eight months.

As per the order issued by the Collector, the land was declared as a reserve land to protect fauna, flora and their environment, forests and wildlife and to prevent human-animal conflict.

The land falls within the limits of Madukkarai Forest Range of Coimbatore Forest Division.

The reserve land is bounded on the north and west by the lease land of Pooluvapatti village, on the south by the Boluvampatti reserve forest and on the east by the lease land of Thenkarai village. No developmental activities will be allowed in the reserved land.

District Forest Officer TK Ashok Kumar has directed the Madukkarai forest range staff to patrol the reserve land, which is home to several species of birds, animals and reptiles.

Madukkarai Forest Range Officer P. Santhia said small mammals including deer and hare are very common in the land as it shares border with the reserve forest areas. He said that elephants also used the land during the migration.
