5 more arrested in clash over ‘conversion’ in Chhattisgarh

Police arrested five more people on Sunday in connection with the alleged clash between two groups Conversion of religion in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarhsaid an official.

Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) P. Sundarraj said that eight people have been arrested in connection with the incident that took place on January 1 in Gorra village under Edka police station area.

On January 3, the police arrested three people. The five arrested on Sunday have been identified as Premsagar Netam, 48; Lacchu Karanga, 32; Santoram Dugga, 35; Punuram Dugga, 45; Rajman Karanga, 46, all residents of Narayanpur, the officer said.

He was produced before a local court from where he was sent to judicial custody, he added.

Police said three separate cases were registered at the Edka police station following complaints received from tribals, tribal Christians and the police about the alleged attacks. There have been reports of unrest in various villages for the past two months over the issue of alleged religious conversion.
