58-yr-old Gujarat woman dies of flu-like symptoms, sample sent for H3N2 test

Three cases of seasonal influenza subtype H3N2 have been reported in Gujarat so far this year.

A 58-year-old woman died due to flu-like symptoms at a government hospital in Gujarat’s Vadodara city, an official said on Tuesday.

Asked whether H3N2 influenza virus was the cause, the official said samples have been sent for testing and a review committee will ascertain the exact cause of the woman’s death.

The patient was shifted from a private facility to Sir Sayajirao General (SSG) Hospital on March 11. She died on March 13, said Resident Medical Officer (RMO), SSG Hospital, DK Helaya.

“We have collected all the samples and sent them for tests. The review committee will ascertain the cause of the woman’s death,” the RMO told reporters.

The deceased was a resident of Fatehganj area of ​​Vadodara.

Gujarat Health Minister Hrishikesh Patel said last week that three cases of seasonal influenza subtype H3N2 have been reported so far this year.

Patel had said, “Till March 10 this year, a total of 80 cases of seasonal flu were reported in Gujarat, out of which 77 are of H1N1 influenza and three of H3N2 subtype. There has not been a single death here due to H3N2.
