5G Telecom Auction Extends To Fourth Day; Bids worth ₹1,49,623 crore received so far

The government has so far received bids worth Rs 1,49,623 crore for the sale of telecom spectrum, the bidding of which will continue on Friday.

Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Thursday that 16 rounds of bidding have been completed at the end of the third day of the auction and bidding will continue on Friday.

Bids worth Rs 1,49,623 crore have been received till the end of the third day, he said. ₹1,49,454 crore was received at the end of the ninth round on the second day of the auction.

“The industry is committed to take the services to rural areas. We are bidding in all spectrum bands,” the minister told reporters.

According to estimates by the government and analysts, the bids have exceeded the bid expectations of Rs 80,000-90,000 crore from the entire auction. A total of 72,097.85 MHz (or 72 GHz) spectrum worth about Rs 4.3 lakh crore was put up for sale, which saw participation from four private players – Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Adani Data Networks.

The previous record for government revenue from spectrum sales in the 2015 auction was ₹1.09 lakh crore.
