6.1 magnitude earthquake in China’s Xinjiang; No casualties reported so far

BeijingA 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Monday, officials said, adding that there were no immediate reports of casualties. According to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC), the epicenter was observed at 40.01 degrees north latitude and 82.29 degrees east longitude with a depth of 50 km, Xinhua news agency reported.

The epicenter is located in an uninhabited area 105 km from Alair city and 141 km from Shaya county seat. According to local officials, the quake was felt around the area, and no casualties or damage to property have been reported so far.

So far, 15 vehicles and 70 rescue workers from the fire and rescue department in Aksu Prefecture have reached the disaster area. A team of 10 people from the Fire and Rescue Department in Shaya County is searching the area of ​​the epicenter with two vehicles. Local power grid operations, oil and gas production, and major petrochemical enterprises were not affected by the earthquake.
