6,050 Covid cases reported on Friday, Health Minister to review preparedness with States, UTs

New Delhi: India has reported 6,050 new cases of Covid in the last 24 hours, the active cases now stand at 28,303, news agency ANI reported.

The rise in cases continues unabated as Friday’s numbers show a 13% jump from the day before.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will chair a review meeting with counterparts from all states and union territories on Friday afternoon.

In the light of increasing cases, a meeting of the Covid Empowerment Working Group was held two days ago to assess the preparedness of the country. The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) also participated in the meeting.

Mandaviya, however, allayed the concerns but said that everyone needs to be cautious. “At present, the sub-variant of Omicron that is running in the country has not resulted in hospitalisation,” the minister said on Thursday.

On Thursday, India had recorded 5,335 new cases – the highest one-day increase in six months. The country’s recovery rate is currently 98.75%.
