Delhi Police constable Sunita has reunited 73 missing children with their parents in the last eight months, officials said on Wednesday.

Police said it also traced four children in the last three days.

On Sunday, a seven-year-old boy went missing from his house at Indira Camp No 2 in Vikaspuri where he lived with his grandfather, they said.

The police started searches in the surrounding areas and analyzed the footage from the CCTV cameras. Later, Sunita traced the child and handed it over to her grandfather, a senior police officer said.

On February 15, a 13-year-old girl went missing from her house in Mayapuri area. In this case also, Ms Sunita traced the girl from Mayapuri, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Prashant Gautam.

On February 16, two children along with their mother went missing in Kanjhawala area. Police said a team of ASI Suresh Kumar and Sunita were successful in locating the missing people.

Sunita joined Delhi Police on 10 November 2014. After initial training, they were posted in various units including Police Control Room (PCR), C4I Command Room CPCR, Police Headquarters (PHQ) and then shifted to Western District. said.

Police said that he is presently posted in the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Western District for the past one year.

In 2019, PHQ created a policy to recognize the efforts of police personnel who locate abducted and missing children and reunite them with their families. He said that the head constable of Samaypur Badli Police Station Seema Dhaka became the first woman to be promoted from Bari to trace 50 missing children within a year.

The act was widely appreciated and became an inspiration to Sunita among others. The constable has traced 73 missing or kidnapped children. Police said fifteen of the recovered children are below eight years of age and the rest are between eight and 16 years old.

In order to recognize their dedication, boost their morale as well as inspire others, the constable is being recommended to be promoted to the rank of head constable as per the extant policies, the police said.
