AHMEDABAD: After the Covid cases, western Ahmedabad has now been hit by swine flu, turning it into a hotspot for H1N1 infections. Of the total 404 cases reported this year, 370 were reported in the first 18 days of August. 75% of the total cases of swine flu, which is 279 cases, were reported from the western areas of the city. To get an idea of ​​the scale of the spread of the disease, AMC Officials said that there were only two cases in June followed by 30 in July. Till August 18, 370 cases of swine flu were reported from different parts of the city. According to a senior AMC health official, a major chunk of swine flu cases were in children below the age of 15, which was worrying. The official revealed that out of 404 cases, around 100 were children below 15 years of age.
A senior AMC health official says, “Infections spread rapidly in schools when they mix. We are now closely monitoring this increase. We have reported two H1N1 deaths this year, but these deaths are in the elderly due to chronic underlying conditions.”
Health officials said two cases had become untreatable. Of the total 48 municipal wards in the city, 11 are where swine flu cases are more than 10. Officials say that not a single case of swine flu has been reported in only eight wards of the city.
