Mexico CITY: Eight bodies were found Saturday in Mexico’s Yucatán peninsula and appear to be the bodies of eight people abducted from a resort on the Caribbean coast. Yucatan state prosecutors said the bodies likely belonged to men who were reported to have been abducted in the quiet beach town. Xcalak,
Xcalak, sometimes spelled Xcalac – spelling used by prosecutors – is located on the southern tip of Mexico’s Caribbean coast near Belize.
At least seven people, and possibly eight, were abducted on Friday from a farm in Xcalak.
A farmer found dead bodies in a field in the village of Yucatán, just above the border. Quintana Roo,
Yucatán prosecutors said they did not appear to have died where they were found, and were probably dumped there.
Officials did not identify the abducted men, but local media reported they were workers at a coastal farm.
Until now Xcalak was largely spared the violence that has plagued other beach towns in Quintana Roo State. However, packages of medicines have been known to wash ashes there in the past.
