80% IT companies likely to adopt hybrid work model for GCC: Report

BENGALURU: Indian tech companies have started adopting new work models that vary from completely remote to a combination of remote and on-site to fully on-site. Whereas traditional companies are focused on precise execution, technology organizations are fluid and modular.

According to a report titled ‘Shaping the Future of Work in India’s Tech Industry’ by NASSCOM, over 80% of IT companies and Global Capacity Centers (GCCs) are most likely to adopt a hybrid work model compared to the rest of the industry sectors. In association with Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

“The pandemic has a massive impact on businesses around the world, in the way they interact and operate. Nasscom President Debjani Ghosh said, “The remote/hybrid is different.” Give them the best of both offline and online work experiences. They should take a holistic approach and take into account new working models and trends while designing the future of the work structure”.

Commenting on the future of work, Nitin Chandalia, Managing Director and Partner, BCG India said that the tech industry is at the cusp of innovation and it is experimenting with unique and innovative solutions to create the workplace of the future. “The future model of work is not binary, and many changes are possible in a continuum. Organizations should individually create their own version of this future model as an important component of the employee value proposition.”

To attract and retain highly skilled talent spread across geographies, companies are not only looking at remote working models, but also plan to transform their geographic footprint and focus on Tier 2/3 cities. Companies are adopting new work models including greater adoption of on-demand pay models (gig workers/freelancers) to gain traction on tapping and retaining diverse talent pools.

As companies begin to call employees back to work, they must now build their value proposition around three basic pillars: developing new talent pools with domain specific skills, supporting variability in contract agreements, and building a strong brand, the report said.
