889 new COVID-19 cases reported in Maharashtra; Lowest since May 2020

With only 889 new COVID-19 cases, Maharashtra on Monday reported the lowest daily infections since May 5, 2020. The state now has 23,184 active cases. He said that in Maharashtra 1,83,092 people are in home quarantine and another 957 are in institutional quarantine.

The state had registered 841 COVID-19 cases on May 5, 2020 and nine deaths as on April 20, 2020.

Maharashtra usually reports fewer cases on Monday as the number of tests conducted on Sunday is less as compared to other days. Less than 85,000 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra’s COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 97.47 per cent, while the death rate is 2.12 per cent, the official said. He said the cumulative number of coronavirus tests in the state rose to 6,19,78,155 after 84,460 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, the lowest in recent days.

According to the official, in Maharashtra, 15 districts and 10 municipal corporations, including Navi Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivli, did not report any new COVID-19 cases.

Mumbai district reported the highest number of new infections at 263, followed by Thane district (excluding Thane civic body areas) at 110. Of Maharashtra’s eight zones (each consisting of a cluster of districts), the Mumbai region reported the highest number of 464 new COVID-19 cases. cases, followed by 238 in Pune region, he said.
