The sudden and heavy rains on Wednesday evening brought much needed relief to the people of Tiruchi battling the scorching heat. Roads were inundated in some low-lying areas with rain, strong wind and lightning.
However, the rains brought some respite in the last few days with the day temperature hovering around 40 degree Celsius.
The rain will also help farmers in summer plowing.
