Petrol and diesel prices remained stable for almost five months on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. The last fuel price change in India came on May 21, when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a cut in excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per liter and on diesel by Rs 6 per liter. Later on July 15, the Maharashtra government had announced a reduction in Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 3 per liter respectively.
On August 24, Meghalaya was the last state to revise petrol and diesel rates. Petrol price in Shillong is now Rs. 96.83 per litre, while diesel now costs Rs. 84.72 per litre. Petrol in Delhi costs Rs 96.72 per liter, while diesel costs Rs 89.62 per liter in Delhi. Petrol in Mumbai costs Rs 106.31 per liter and diesel costs Rs 94.27 per liter.
