A ‘Dal Roti’ date? Jaipur restaurant that only allows men in the company of women goes viral

A Jaipur eatery is going viral on social media when a user, who is visited by Harshita Sharma, shared a picture of herself sitting there, with the caption, “So this man took me here to get dal roti Because” (sic). The reason is explained by a branded message on an AC in the restaurant: It says in Hindi, “Men are allowed here only with women”. In a source, the user identified the restaurant in Jaipur as Gopi Bhojanalaya. “For all those who want to know about the place. This is Gopi eatery in Jaipur. The food is amazing. Must try,” she wrote while sharing another picture of the restaurant. The hoardings of the eatery read in Hindi, “Family Hall of Women Only”. The post was circulated on Twitter and Instagram, and at the time of writing this article, it has garnered over 14,000 likes on the microblogging platform.

Many were happy with the unique terms set by the restaurant, and some others, not so much. While some said that those who were single were going to have a hard time with it, others thought the idea would be helpful in keeping out alcoholics or other such individuals. Some others were happy with the idea of dal roti dates. One user wrote, “He took you there, probably because he was a fan of delicious food (like everyone else) but was very afraid of the owner there. Uncle Bahot strict j of gopi eatery. (I have been there) , that too shamelessly done)”.

Some Twitter users thought it provided an innovative way for someone to go on a date without being too explicit about it.

While women’s nights in nightclubs or pubs are nothing in common, this idea is not seen much in the case of restaurants. However, a comment from another user under the thread suggested that there may be such eateries in other places as well. The user wrote, “… there is a Bati Chokha restaurant in Varanasi which is run by rural women. Men don’t go there alone. The restaurant has an elegant aura, which is decorated in Rajasthani style and stereotypical rural look. And yes yummy baati chokha”.
