Marhi Yatra started from Pathardi Taluka of Maharashtra. Thousands of Nath devotees gathered today at the samadhi where Kanifnath’s last rites are performed and after offering prayers. Rang Panchami is considered a very auspicious day for the devotees. Devotees thronged Nath’s samadhi since morning to have a glimpse of him. Donkeys and other animals are brought here for sale during the journey. Since the number of donkeys is decreasing rapidly with time, they are in great demand and that is why their price is high. Traders from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat come to participate in this fair and many traders also come from Telangana for the honey market.

This year there is a shortage of Kathewadi donkeys and their demand is high. The rapidly declining number of their population has increased their demand.

In Marhi Yatra of Pathardi taluka, one out of every three donkeys present here is a Punjabi hybrid donkey. And they are fetching a price of ₹100,000. Many people were found desperate to buy this donkey. So for those who have Kathewadi, around 130 animals were bought before reaching the yatra. The merchant who had brought 300 animals was left with only 130 animals by the time he reached the destination. There has been an unprecedented increase in the demand for donkeys.
