A two-year-old boy lost his way from an apartment late on Thursday night and was found standing on the main road by a CMC doctor.

A two-year-old boy, who wandered from an apartment late Thursday night, was spotted on the street by a doctor and reunited with his parents in less than an hour.

Nandakumar, a resident of Ayyappanthangal, and a doctor from CMC, Vellore, travel to work every day in their car. Around midnight on Thursday, they saw a two-year-old boy, later identified as Umar, standing alone near Savita Hospital on Poonamallee bypass. Since no one was around, the doctor took Umar to the head constable Manikandan at Poonamallee police station. At night, round in-charge station in-charge Anbuselvi reached the police station and questioned the child.

Around 1 am, the control room received a call from Ganesan, the association secretary of Radiance Royal Apartments, Poonamallee, informing about a child missing from the apartment complex. Immediately, an alert was issued over the wireless. Ms. Anbuselvi informed the control room about the boy. The same was relayed to the boy’s parents.

The parents, Ayesha Bano and Adhik Basha, reached the police station along with the neighbours. Omar was handed over to the parents. He thanked the police officers and Dr. Nandakumar for saving the child.

Mr. Basha works as a manager in a textile shop in Hosur. He had come to visit his cousin Riyasuddin, who lives in the Radiance Royal Apartments in Poonamallee. On Thursday night Mr Basha, Mr Riyasudhin and other members of the household went to a mall in Velachery for shopping and returned to their flat late in the night. On reaching the second floor flat, Ms. Basha and his wife noticed that Omar was missing.

Avadi Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore appreciated the efforts of Dr. Nandkumar. The Commissioner appreciated the police personnel on night duty and the control room personnel for their quick response.
