New Delhi:

Delhi government’s industries department has been authorized by UIDAI to accept Aadhaar for eight of its online services, including conversion to freehold and online payment of dues and refund requests, officials said on Monday.

A notification by the department issued last week said that other online services of the industries department that will be covered by voluntary Aadhaar authentication are mortgage permission, application for possession, change in constitution and extension of time for construction.

People applying for these online services will be asked for their consent for their Aadhaar details.

The document states that the purposes for which the Aadhaar number and related information and the manner in which it is sought will be clearly communicated to the applicants.

The applicant will not be denied any services or benefits due to failure of Aadhaar-based authentication.

The Aadhaar number will not be displayed anywhere and will be stored securely in the Aadhaar Data Vault.

The Unique Identification Authority of India, or UIDAI, is the statutory authority entrusted with the issue of 12-digit Aadhaar to all residents of India.
