AAP announces second list of 117 candidates for Delhi MCD elections

The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday announced its final list of 117 candidates for the elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to be held on December 4.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led party on Friday announced its first list for the 250-member House. “People’s choice has become the voice of the party,” the party said in a statement, and party old-timers are getting preference in the second list of candidates after coming out on top in all polls.

“117 old and hardworking party volunteers with strong presence in their areas have got priority in ticket distribution,” the statement said.

The list of candidates was finalized at a marathon meeting of the AAP Political Affairs Committee, chaired by Kejriwal.

Before giving tickets, AAP had conducted a survey of all the candidates and took public feedback. Over 20,000 party workers had applied to contest the upcoming civic polls.

AAP’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) met here on Saturday for the second consecutive day to finalize the list of candidates and discuss other issues related to the elections.

Apart from other senior members, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and AAP’s Delhi State Convenor Gopal Rai were also present in the meeting. It added, “The purpose of today’s PAC meeting was to review the survey and statistics of the remaining MCD wards for which the party had not declared candidates.”

Earlier in the day, Kejriwal challenged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to tell the public about five things he has done in the MCD in the last 15 years.

He said, ‘Forget even five things, let him come out and tell about two things that he has done in MCD. They just hold press conferences and abuse Arvind Kejriwal 24 hours a day. They have called me a traitor, terrorist, Khalistani and what not. What kind of politics is this? he said at a press conference here.

Accusing the saffron party of doing ‘negative politics’, he said, ‘People do not like negative politics and false allegations. In the last seven to eight months, and especially since VK Saxena has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, the BJP has been relentlessly indulging in the politics of accusation and hatred against the elected government in Delhi. People are tired of such politics. The Delhi Chief Minister further alleged that the BJP has tried everything possible to stop the work of his government, but despite all the obstacles, the AAP has completed the projects it had started.

“Delhi people are seeing this and hence, we are confident that they will not vote for BJP in the upcoming MCD elections. We can tell people what we will give them in MCD in the next five years and only yesterday we issued 10 guarantees for them.

BJP has no plan for MCD. They only abuse Kejriwal. Let me tell them clearly that just abusing Kejriwal is not going to get them any votes.

Meanwhile, the Delhi BJP on Saturday released the first list of 232 candidates for the municipal elections, which includes 126 women, three Muslims, seven Sikhs and nine former mayors.
