Apart from Sunita, former AAP councilor Ram Niwas also joined BJP.

Ahead of the MCD mayoral election, AAP councilor from Dwarka C ward Sunita on Monday joined the BJP in the presence of senior leaders of its Delhi unit.

The election for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will be held on April 26.

Welcoming Sunita into the party, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva alleged that ordinary volunteers in AAP were treated like “bonded labour”.

The AAP councillor’s switch of sides, however, will have little impact on the upcoming mayoral election.

In the MCD elections held in December 2022, AAP defeated BJP by winning 134 wards.

The BJP was able to win 104 out of 250 wards.

Sunita is the second AAP councilor to join the BJP. Earlier, Pawan Sehrawat from Bawana ward had joined BJP in February this year.

Apart from Sunita, former AAP councilor Ram Niwas also joined the BJP.

West Delhi BJP MP Parvesh Verma alleged that many other AAP leaders are feeling suffocated and are expected to join the BJP soon.

Sunita said she shares close ties with the BJP, especially Verma, and expressed her willingness to work hard to strengthen the party.
