AAP student wing CYSS wins President’s post in Panjab University Students’ Poll

In a boost to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab, its student wing Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti on Tuesday won the President’s post in the Panjab University student elections. This was the first time that AAP’s student wing contested the elections to the Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC).

Ayush Khatkar elected as new chairman of PUCSC. National Students Union, the student wing of Congress India (NSUI) won the posts of vice-president and joint secretary, while the Jannayak Janata Party’s student wing INSO won the secretary’s post. Congratulating Khatkar, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said in a tweet in Hindi, “Youth can change the destiny of the country if they want. Today the students of Panjab University have proved this. The resounding victory of the Aam Aadmi Party’s student wing CYSS has further strengthened the ideology of Bhagat Singh, with Ayush Khatkar as the President (PUCSC). Eight candidates, including two women, were in the fray for the post of PUCSC president.

Khatkar secured 2,712 votes by defeating Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad candidate Harish Gurjar by a margin of 660 votes. Punjab education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hare also lauded the CYSS candidate’s victory.

“Students of Punjab University” Election The victory is in favor of the policies of our National Convener Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The youth have rejected the communal ideology and Operation Lotus,” Hare said in a tweet. National Students Union of India, Students for Society, Punjab Students Union, ABVP, SATH, Student Organization of India and Panjab University Students Union had fielded candidates for the post of President in the PUCSC elections.

Elections were also held for the posts of Vice President, Secretary and Joint Secretary. NSUI’s Harshdeep Singh Bath got 3,514 votes for the post of council’s vice-president. The post of Joint Secretary was won by Manish Bura of NSUI who scored 3,151 marks.

Pravesh Bishnoi of the National Students’ Organization of India (INSO) got 4,275 votes for the post of secretary, while his nearest rival Sagar Bawa of NSUI got 3,131 votes. After Bishnoi’s victory, JJP leader Digvijay Singh Chautala went to the PU campus and congratulated him. There were around 15,000 students who were eligible to vote in the PUCSC elections.
