Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bhardwaj questioned the deployment of security personnel inside the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) headquarters on Tuesday after the proceedings for the election of mayor and deputy mayor began.
“Paramilitary forces are being allowed to enter inside the House with lathis in hand. Does the BJP want to take over the MCD by force, intimidation?” he asked in a Twitter post.
“I have been elected to the Delhi Assembly thrice, but have never seen such a huge deployment of paramilitary forces inside the House, armed with sticks, helmets and shields. This is the first time that such a deployment is being allowed inside the House.”
Bhardwaj further said that they are allowed to be posted outside the House.
He said, ‘If BJP has the mandate then why are they taking the help of security personnel?’
Does BJP want to end MCD with the help of security forces? I want to tell all the MPs of the country that if all of you do not come today to oppose it, then it is possible that force may be deployed in the Parliament as well.
However, BJP’s mayoral candidate Rekha Gupta said the forces were deployed because of the poor behavior of AAP councilors in the last meeting, when they attacked their saffron party counterparts.
He said forces have been deployed to avoid any such unfortunate incident.
