Abhishek Banerjee launches TMC’s new campaign, says BJP’s ‘communal’ narrative will not dictate Bengal politics

Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee on 25 April said that elections to 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal would be held on the issue of development and not on the “communal” narrative promoted by the BJP.

Mr Banerjee, who earlier in the day launched a public relations campaign ‘Trinamool e Nabjowar’ (New Wave in Trinamool) from Coochbehar district keeping in mind the upcoming rural elections in the state, said the TMC’s aim was to build a people’s panchayat in the state. .

“The next Lok Sabha election in West Bengal will be on the issue of development. It will not be on the issue of communal polarisation, which the BJP wants. They have to be defeated. We will fight for the rights of the people here,” he said. State,” he said while addressing a rally as part of the campaign.

Lok Sabha elections are to be held in the country in 2024.

TMC National General Secretary Shri Banerjee launched the public relations campaign at a temple in Dinhata assembly constituency.

He talked to the local people and listened to their problems.

“TMC is the only party that will fight for your rights. The BJP-led government at the Center has stopped funds under the MGNREGA scheme as it has to accept its defeat in the 2021 assembly elections,” he said.

Mr Abhishek, considered the party’s number two leader and nephew of TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, will travel around 3,500 kms and hold over 250 rallies across the state during the two-month-long campaign.

He had earlier said that the objective of the outreach campaign is to reach out and empower people to decide on TMC candidates for the upcoming panchayat elections through secret ballot.

“Such initiative is taken for the first time in the country. You will never see any ruling party running such a campaign. But we believe that in a democracy people are supreme. You can choose the candidate through secret ballot. We do.” The nomination will be given by the party,” he said.

During the day, the TMC MP will address two more rallies in the district.

Later in the evening, Mr Banerjee will participate in a conference and ‘Gram Banglar Motamot’ (opinion of rural Bengal) program where local people will select TMC candidates for rural polls through secret ballot.
