The Calcutta High Court in August directed the ED to interrogate Gambhir at its regional office in Kolkata and not in Delhi and not take coercive steps against him till the next date of hearing. Gambhir had challenged the ED’s summons asking him to appear in Delhi on September 5 in the alleged coal scam case and sought the court’s direction to the agency to make him appear before it in Kolkata. where he claimed to have lived.

The ED had earlier questioned Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee and his wife Rujira in the same case.
