Random elections were held for local bodies across the state, with Coimbatore district registering 74.81 per cent voter turnout on Saturday. Elections were held from 7 am to 5 pm, special arrangements were made for corona positive patients from 5 pm to 6 pm

The notification for the election of one Panchayat President and seven Ward Councilors in the district was issued by the State Election Commission. Four ward councilor candidates were elected unopposed from Sokkanoor, Nallattipalayam, Vazhaikombu Nagoor and Singanallur.

Elections were held for Muthur panchayat president and three ward councillors, one each in Kurunallipalayam, Vadakkipalayam and Perur Chettipalayam, with a turnout of 74.81 per cent.

In Tiruppur district, casual elections were held for the posts of one each in Avinashi and Palladam panchayat union, president and ward councillors of Uthukuli panchayat, one each for ward councilors in Avinashi and Gudimangalam panchayats. Voter turnout was recorded at 70.90 percent.

Counting of votes is to be held on July 11.
