ACI survey finds travel sentiment strongest in 3 years

New Delhi: A survey by Airports Council International has revealed that the travel sentiment or travel intention is the strongest since the start of the COVID pandemic nearly three years ago.

The Montreal-based Airports Council International (ACI) is an association of airport authorities with 717 members, including 185 countries and 1,950 airports.

For the annual ASQ Global Traveler Survey, ACI included views from travelers who traveled at least annually before the pandemic, and who have either traveled again during the COVID pandemic or will travel again in the future. are planning to do.

According to the survey, 76 per cent of the passengers before the pandemic had planned to travel in 2021-22 and 68% of them actually executed on those plans. In addition, 86% of the respondents plan to travel by air in 2023. The ACI said this is the highest intended score since the start of the pandemic, largely due to the removal or loosening of several barriers and crisis measures.

While most travelers were confident about the air travel environment, they were largely concerned about the increase in airfares.

Among the respondents, 81% were convinced that airports and airlines provide a safe environment for passengers, compared to 74% a year ago. About 77% of passengers were primarily concerned about the increased cost and about 75% were concerned about the complexity related to air travel.

However, protocols related to COVID at airports have found support as 71% of the respondents believe that airports should continue to provide measures that make them feel safe. The highest unanimous support for a COVID-related measure shifted from masks to enhanced hygiene, as chosen by 31% of the respondents.

“It is clear from the ASQ 2022 Global Traveler Survey that travelers have a high intention to travel and have faith in the industry to provide a safe environment. While the COVID-19 variant remains a concern for travelers, this year’s report provides new insights to understand the current passenger expectations, refine their air travel and meet their needs,” said ACI World’s Director General Luis Felipe de Oliveira said.

In addition, the broader aviation ecosystem must work together to continue increasing adoption of technologies, such as providing real-time information, self-service options and off-airport processing solutions, all of which passengers have the ability to use. Willingness has been shown,” said Oliveira.
