Morbi bridge collapsed The Additional Public Prosecutor in the Morbi bridge collapse case on Wednesday made a shocking revelation that one of the accused managers of the Orewa firm justified an “act of God” for the tragic incident.

Advocate HS Panchal submitted that one of the two managers of the arrested firm gave this statement in a Gujarat court. Another important revelation, according to him, was that the bridge’s cable wires were “rusting out” and not in the best shape to be opened to the public.

“In the report of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), the Investigating Officer (IO) said that the cable of the bridge was rusting. The investigating officer says that only the bridge was floored and the cables were not replaced, oiled Wasn’t done either,” Advocate Panchal added, as per ANI. Quoting an FSL official, he further said that prima facie it appears that it was an old cable.

Talking about the details, Panchal said, “Out of the 4 people who were sent to police custody, two are managers in the Oreva company and two others have worked on the construction of the bridge. Five others sent to judicial custody are security personnel and security personnel. There are ticket sellers.” The accused has been sent to police custody today.

According to Panchal, the investigating officer has claimed in his report that the contract was awarded directly to the firm and not through the tender process.

Gujarat’s Morbi Court on Wednesday sent four of the nine people detained in connection with the collapse of the century-old suspension bridge on October 30 to police custody and the other five to judicial custody till November 5.

It is pertinent to mention here that at least 135 people, including women and children, were killed and over 100 people were injured, who are undergoing treatment, when a cable suspension bridge collapsed in Morbi town on Sunday.
