“Active Shooter” Situation in Atlanta Building, 1 Dead, 4 Injured

A gunman opened fire inside a medical building in the US city of Atlanta, killing one and wounding four, the Atlanta Police Department said in a series of tweets. The suspect seen in CCTV footage holding a gun has been identified by police as 24-year-old Dion Patterson.

Police Chief Darrin Shirbaum said at a news conference that all of the victims were women and that the shooting took place in the hospital waiting room. Mr. Shirbaum indicated that the shooter’s mother was among the people in the room but that she was not the shooting victim.

The police chief said, “Deon Patterson left the building and robbed a vehicle. We believe he left the area. The vehicle has been recovered.” However, he added that the gun used by the shooter is not in the possession of the police and they are actively looking for it.

Police have identified the suspect as Deion Patterson, who remains on the run.
