Mathri is a crispy snack relished by people of all age groups and enjoyed with a cup of hot tea. The sweet version of mathri, also known as meethi mathri, is made by dipping the snack in sugar syrup, giving it a sweet twist. Here’s How You Can Make Halwai-Style Meethi Mathri

  • Take 2 cups all purpose flour in a bowl and add 1 tsp salt and ghee to it and mix all the ingredients well. Knead this mixture with lukewarm water into a hard dough and keep it covered for some time. Once the dough rests, make small balls and roll them with a round cutter or a small bowl to make small sized mathris. Prepare all the mathris and keep them aside.
  • Take a large pan or kadhai, heat oil and set the flame to low. Put the mathris in the pan, but do not stir them. Let them come up on their own, and then turn them over with a spatula, frying them until they are golden brown. Take out the mathri from the oil and keep it separately.
  • To prepare sugar syrup, take 2 cups of sugar and add one cup of water to it. Cook the syrup while stirring the syrup. When the syrup is ready, put this mathri in it and cook it with the syrup till it thickens. Turn off the gas and after a while your Mathri is ready. Watch the full video here:
