India’s biennial aerospace exhibition Aero India, which aims to project the country as a major hub for manufacturing military aircraft, equipment and avionics, will begin on February 13. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the five-day exhibition at the Yelahanka Air Force Station complex on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

Officials said 809 defense companies and delegates from 98 countries are participating in Aero-India, which is touted as Asia’s biggest aerospace exhibition.

At a press conference, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that Aero India would act as a catalyst in the further development of the aerospace sector in India and help in realizing the country’s objective of becoming self-reliant in defense manufacturing.

“I am confident that Bengaluru will emerge as a global hub for the aerospace sector. We aim to create a vibrant defense manufacturing ecosystem,” he said. Shri Singh said that this edition of Aero India will be much bigger than all the previous editions.
