AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers: Treating the match against Kyrgyz Republic as any other game, says Igor Stimac

Indian football team head coach Igor Stimac has admitted that the pace at which the UAE played against his team in the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifier on October 27 was tough for his boys, but added that the team was the Kyrgyz team. Will do his best against Republic in the late evening game on Saturday.

After making a positive start to their campaign by beating Oman, India lost to Under-23 UAE and are currently on three points from two matches. A win against the Kyrgyz Republic will boost their chances of qualifying for the AFC U-23 Asian Cup to be held in Uzbekistan in 2022.

“We are treating the match against Kyrgyz Republic as any other game,” Stimac said ahead of the crucial India U-23 encounter at the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers.

“Boys should try to stay focused and disciplined, always respecting the opponent, but without any fear. It’s important to move the ball quickly and switch sides against aggressive teams like the Kyrgyz. So let’s hope our boys stay focused. We have seen in our last match against UAE that the pace of the game is much faster than our boys, so more than two touches on the ball doesn’t help,” Stimac said on Saturday.

India defeated Oman 2-1 in their first match and suffered a 0-1 loss against hosts UAE in their next match. In contrast, the Kyrgyz Republic defeated UAE 2–1 in their first match, while they lost 0–1 to Oman in the second.

“Kyrgyz Republic deservedly beat UAE and were unfortunate to lose to Oman in the dying minutes after missing some great opportunities. They are an aggressive side, and very strong, well prepared and physically fit. are fast in transition,” Koch explained.

“They have 4-5 players with great technical abilities so we should not spare time or space for their handling. Of the ball, they move well and we need to find a way to move the ball before it reaches us. It will be a very interesting game.”
