Khan said, PhD scholars whose submission dates are near and courses that require practical classes will be called first. The decision to reopen is being taken after the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) issued guidelines for reopening of all schools, colleges and universities.

“The notification will contain all the information regarding the reopening of the university. It will be clarified which courses we are reopening in the first phase and in the second phase. Apart from this, the date will also be notified,” he said.

“In the first phase, as the vice-chancellor has said, we will give priority to PhD scholars who are in their final year, students of physiotherapy, dentistry and final year students. The syllabus which requires practical classes will be given priority,” Khan said, adding that if the classes would be conducted offline, the exams would be held in the same way.

Khan also said that preparations are on to reopen the university and things will take time to settle as classes and hostels have been closed for two years. “There will be some problems as classes were closed for the last two years. Hostels, canteens are closed for the last two years. It will take time for things to settle down. The work is being planned to start. We are planning to award a new contract for the canteen. We are also planning to start repair work for the hostels. We need to complete the resumption of classes,” he said.

Jamia will be reopened following all COVID-19 protocols. Students will be required to submit vaccination certificates and RT-PCR reports to return to campus. The university has not started the application process for the allotment of hostel rooms. Jamia hostels can accommodate a maximum of 3,500 students.

“No allotment has been made as of now. We will start the application process soon. Dorm rooms need to be prepared. Planning in this regard has been started,” he said.

The All India Students Association, along with other student organizations and students of Jamia, are protesting demanding the reopening of the campus. The protesting students threatened to agitate if the notification for reopening the university was not issued by Tuesday.
