After winning the 2022 Punjab elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) now wants to make its mark in West Bengal. The party is likely to conduct a ‘Padpan Yatra’ in Kolkata at 4 pm today. Though AAP had several units in the state capital, some of them merged with TMC after 2015.
According to local AAP leaders, the party has had an “excellent performance” in Punjab, and is looking to celebrate the election results in West Bengal by launching its campaign in the state.
The rally will run from Dharmatala to Girish Park in Kolkata. This is the first such rally of AAP in the state led by Mamata Banerjee.
Not only rallies, AAP has started running membership drive in the state. Many hoardings and posters of AAP have come up in Malda district.
Party insiders say that AAP has established bases in every district of the state.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal share a good relationship but they were rivals in the Goa elections and were seen criticizing each other in every way.
Besides the attention that Banerjee attracted after winning the 2021 Bengal election, Kejriwal also became the talk of the country after the party’s record victory in Punjab, securing 92 seats in the 117-seat assembly.
Since the fall of the Congress in this year’s state assembly elections, the AAP has replaced the Grand Old Party to form an alternative front in 2024. Experts say they believe AAP’s victory in Punjab will help it see it as a formidable alternative. Congress.
West Bengal Congress President Adhir Chowdhury said, “After Punjab, Arvind has now surpassed Mamata’s prospects. They will try to expand their base everywhere, which they are doing.”
Many political leaders are keeping a close watch on AAP’s activities. TMC general secretary Kunal Ghosh said, “They are a political party so they are doing just one program. Mamata Banerjee is a three-time CM, former railway minister, and she has so many years of experience in parliamentary politics. Let’s see what happens. Is.”
